Latin has been a core element in the curriculum at Mooreland since its founding in 1930, and is offered to students in grades 6-9. The Latin course, at all levels, challenges students to acquire a thorough command of the rudiments of the language. In addition, and at least as importantly, the students are equipped with a knowledge of Roman culture and of the linguistic and cultural heritage which the Romans bequeathed to us. The study of Latin strengthens student achievement in all academic disciplines. The study of Roman culture equips the student to engage in the business of daily living with a clearer understanding of social realities and of personal challenges. It also offers the thoughtful person resources in the struggle to choose wisely and to live well.
